Two Poems about Women

I love these poems. If you want to change the World makes me cry everytime I read it!

BEING A WOMAN

By Satya Nelms

It’s not so easy, being born a girl,

knowing that one day you will be a woman.

It’s not fair to grow up with the thought

that you are a member of the weaker sex.

It’s not the most exciting piece of news,

when you’re told being a woman

means carrying a curse.

It’s not easy being asked if it’s

“that time of the month,”

any time you’re feeling less than pleasant.

It’s not fair that

“being a girl” is an insult,

while “manning up” is a call to action.

It’s not easy to be

objectified and marginalized.

But life isn’t easy and

the world

isn’t

always

fair.

Yet and still,

I’d choose to be a woman any day.

Because being a woman is not a cross to bear,

but an honor bestowed by birthright.

And how we came to call something a curse

that holds the key to our very existence is beyond me,

but I’ll take my curse,

and raise you a miracle.

If being a girl means that I have emotions,

and dare to show them

or that on occasion I think with my heart

instead of my head,

then I’ll be a girl any day.

Being born a girl,

now a woman,

has made me strong.

It has made me compassionate,

and more than any other identifying marker,

it has made me proud.

IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE THE WORLD …LOVE A WOMAN

“When a fairly spiritual male friend of mine who had finally found and was deepening into committed relationship with his soul mate confided in me he was thinking of being single again, and in the next breath expressed his latest idea for raising consciousness worldwide, I wrote this poem.” Kahealani Sisson Satchitananda

If you want to change the world… love a woman-really love her.
Find the one who calls to your soul, who doesn’t make sense.
Throw away your check list and put your ear to her heart and listen.
Hear the names, the prayers, the songs of every living thing-
every winged one, every furry and scaled one,
every underground and underwater one, every green and flowering one,
every not yet born and dying one…
Hear their melancholy praises back to the One who gave them life.
If you haven’t heard your own name yet, you haven’t listened long enough.
If your eyes aren’t filled with tears, if you aren’t bowing at her feet,
you haven’t ever grieved having almost lost her.

If you want to change the world… love a woman-one woman
beyond yourself, beyond desire and reason,
beyond your male preferences for youth, beauty and variety
and all your superficial concepts of freedom.
We have given ourselves so many choices
we have forgotten that true liberation
comes from standing in the middle of the soul’s fire
and burning through our resistance to Love.
There is only one Goddess.
Look into Her eyes and see-really see
if she is the one to bring the axe to your head.
If not, walk away. Right now. Don’t waste time “trying.”
Know that your decision has nothing to do with her
because ultimately it’s not with who but when we choose to surrender.

If you want to change the world… love a woman.
Love her for life-beyond your fear of death,
beyond your fear of being manipulated
by the Mother inside your head.
Don’t tell her you’re willing to die for her.
Say you’re willing to LIVE with her,
plant trees with her and watch them grow.
Be her hero by telling her how beautiful she is in her vulnerable majesty,
by helping her to remember every day that she IS Goddess
through your adoration and devotion.

If you want to change the world… love a woman
in all her faces, through all her seasons
and she will heal you of your schizophrenia-
your double-mindedness and half-heartedness
which keeps your Spirit and body separate-
which keeps you alone and always looking outside your Self
for something to make your life worth living.
There will always be another woman.
Soon the new shiny one will become the old dull one
and you’ll grow restless again, trading in women like cars,
trading in the Goddess for the latest object of your desire.
Man doesn’t need any more choices.
What man needs is Woman, the Way of the Feminine,
of Patience and Compassion, non-seeking, non-doing,
of breathing in one place and sinking deep intertwining roots
strong enough to hold the Earth together
while she shakes off the cement and steel from her skin.

If you want to change the world… love a woman, just one woman .
Love and protect her as if she is the last holy vessel.
Love her through her fear of abandonment
which she has been holding for all of humanity.
No, the wound is not hers to heal alone.
No, she is not weak in her codependence.
If you want to change the world… love a woman
all the way through
until she believes you,
until her instincts, her visions, her voice, her art, her passion,
her wildness have returned to her-
until she is a force of love more powerful
than all the political media demons who seek to devalue and destroy her.

If you want to change the world,
lay down your causes, your guns and protest signs.
Lay down your inner war, your righteous anger
and love a woman…
beyond all of your striving for greatness,
beyond your tenacious quest for enlightenment.
The holy grail stands before you
if you would only take her in your arms
and let go of searching for something beyond this intimacy.

What if peace is a dream which can only be re-membered
through the heart of Woman?
What if a man’s love for Woman, the Way of the Feminine
is the key to opening Her heart?

If you want to change the world…love a woman
to the depths of your shadow,
to the highest reaches of your Being,
back to the Garden where you first met her,
to the gateway of the rainbow realm
where you walk through together as Light as One,
to the point of no return,
to the ends and the beginning of a new Earth.

Medicine Wheel

The Medicine Wheel is sacred.  It is an understanding of the Universe.  There are many different interpretations of its mystery.  You may have come across Native American wheels but there are also wheels for the Celtic tradition, the Inka Path and the Nordic. These wheels work with the elements, animals and energies appropriate to each area.

Some like the Celtic wheel are a modern invention with no evidence of them being used here at all.  However that doesn’t matter because a Wheel is a wonderful tool and as with much ‘Shamanic’ and energy work it is all about the intention.  We create our own reality and as long as we proceed with compassion and awareness, no harm can come.

Many years ago we used to belong to a Historical Re-enactment group.  It was great fun, particularly when the boys were young, it gave us an excuse to run around dressed as Celts, the lads would fight with wooden swords that they had made themselves (with Dad’s help), sit round fires and party.  Within the Re-enactment movement there is a distinct schism – the ‘Itchy-Scratchies’ and the others.  The Itchy-Scratchies were so dedicated to getting it ‘right’ they they would even wear stuff that was blatantly un-comfortable ( sacking shirts and undergarments) just because that’s how it used to be!  The others took the , I say, more practical route and did what they could with more modern materials.  Whether my boys learned anything about ‘Celtic’ society I doubt but they did learn to share and use their imagination and have fun without the input of technology. More to the point ‘Itchy scratchy’ is a term that fits a lot of what happens in the alternative world. Sometimes I get the feeling that some groups are ‘judgemental’ in their holiness.

Just because the Celts didn’t have a Medicine Wheel doesn’t mean that as their descendants we can’t.  It is such a useful tool for understanding about ourselves and the Universes we live in.  We can learn from the past but it is always important to place our knowledge in the context of now.

In many cultures the directions have a Sacred significance.  In Christianity churches are usually built with an awareness of North South East and West.  Below is a link to an interesting page on Sacred Geometry

If you decide to construct a wheel for yourself then you will have great fun determining whats right for you.  You can read books and get clues how other societies delineate the construction but I feel it is more appropriate to work it out for yourself.  See what feels right for you.  You can build a large one in the garden or one the size of a tray for indoor use.  Its fun and when completed and treated in an appropriate manner it will help you  deal with many of Life’s challenges-giving you guidance to your state of being and your place within Existence.

I will write about how to build one later.

Save our Ancient Forests

Below is a note sent to me by a friend on Facebook. He talks a lot of sense. I really love the idea-see what you feel?

Do you remember the 80′s? I do, sort of. Didn’t the Tories sell loads of national assets really cheaply and then pay these private companies enormous subsidies to run their new businesses? It was something like that wasn’t it? I’m hazy on all the details.

I really don’t believe that sensitive woodland is in danger from the axe if private owners get their hands on them. the government will make a big show about “listening” and tighten up legislation. These woodlands are already heavily legally encumbered and any new legislation will only be tinkering. The British people will have been “listened to” though and the sale will proceed. In order to sell these woods the government will have to guarantee a return on investment. This will come through subsidy and carbon trading. Like in the 80′s the assets will be sold cheaply and put into private hands through a combination of ideology and veneality.

So, if it’s going to happen and the only real net effects will be a redistribution of wealth and the danger of less co-ordinated regional forestry management, then the question remains of who will buy it. Much will depend on the size of parcels offered.

To those of you fundamentally opposed to the idea of the privitisation of FC land I would ask you to consider a fall-back position. To those who are not ideologically committed then I suggest an investment opportunity. It is unlikely that any of us have sufficient free funds to buy forestry, but in syndicates we might. If it is going to happen in spite of all protests then it would be of no harm to be in a position to buy. Otherwise the you will be the ones paying for your own land in the subsidies paid to the land-owners. If you buy the land your investment will be returned and it will turn out that you have been given the land.

As I have said, much will depend on the minimum size of parcels offered. It may be that the table is so rigged that small-timers can’t even get a place at the table. I would, in any case, suggest that you keep a weather eye out and ask around for people who might be interested in a woodland near you.

Magical Women

We, as women, have been stripped of our
birthright as the Source of Life.  We have come
to believe in the superior potency of the
patriarchy.  We have suffered and lost our
connection with our Power, our Beauty and our
Truth.  So we try and survive the modern world
by adopting male attitudes.  This is causing us
great stress and dis-harmony…trying to be all
things for all people.  It’s just not working!

I have just returned from facilitating this wonderful workshop-The Magical Woman-in Dorset

It is a inner journey taken by participants to locate, understand and heal the 5 Sacred Powers of our Divine Feminine.  When these treasures are in harmony and balance it enables and empowers us to be the woman we deserve to be.  It re-connects us with the Divine Feminine within.

It was a weekend of creativity and laughter-shared with our Sisters-honouring our birthrite and re-connecting with ourselves and the Web of Life.

Such a lovely weekend with such wonderful women.

Blessed be
