Please note- So many people make the spurious claim these days to be a Shaman. We work shamanically and accesses information from the Spirit Worlds using shamanic techniques but that does not make us Shamen. Traditional Shaman skills are often handed down within a family or close community. In the Andes, being struck by lightening seems to be a fairly common way of initiation! In the West we have lost our tradition so we can attempt to retrieve and rebirth these lost arts for our community. We use the tools that Shamen and other teachers have taught us and work for the harmonising of individuals and humanity through our workshops and therapies. We are human and fallible, we don’t have all the answers .

If you’d like anymore information please don’t hesitate to call or email.

Magical Women

We, as women, have been stripped of our
birthright as the Source of Life.  We have come
to believe in the superior potency of the
patriarchy.  We have suffered and lost our
connection with our Power, our Beauty and our
Truth.  So we try and survive the modern world
by adopting male attitudes.  This is causing us
great stress and dis-harmony…trying to be all
things for all people.  It’s just not working!

I have just returned from facilitating this wonderful workshop-The Magical Woman-in Dorset

It is a inner journey taken by participants to locate, understand and heal the 5 Sacred Powers of our Divine Feminine.  When these treasures are in harmony and balance it enables and empowers us to be the woman we deserve to be.  It re-connects us with the Divine Feminine within.

It was a weekend of creativity and laughter-shared with our Sisters-honouring our birthrite and re-connecting with ourselves and the Web of Life.

Such a lovely weekend with such wonderful women.

Blessed be

Dates for Drum making workshops with Sweat Lodge 2011

We have 3 scheduled Drum making weekends with Sweat Lodge so far for this year with a possibility of extra dates if necessary. They are:

Beltaine Weekend 30th -1st May – Women only

Solstice 25th-26th June-open

Lammas 6th-7th August-open

The Sweat Lodge is being offered by Cantia Sweats.  This gives us a wonderful opportunity to welcome our new drums with a dedication ceremony.

Wir habt trummeln gebaut!

I can’t believe its a month since my last entry.  Busy times!

Anna and I went to Hamburg recently to run a drum making workshop.  We were working with our  Shamanka sister Monika, who lives and facilitates a Shamanic group on the outskirts of the City.

The flight from Gatwick was uneventful and we arrived at Monika’s late in the evening.  Next day we went to the garden where the workshop would take place.  Soaked the hides and set up a Medicine Wheel.  We prepared ourselves for the weekend.  The weather forecast was dismal so there were tents and a Gazebo erected in preparation for the coming downpours.

The group were concerned that we would have communication problems.  However with my pigeon German,  Monika’s good English and plenty of body language we managed easily!

Much of the Art of Drum Making cannot be spoken-it is about tapping into our creative centres,  contacting Spirit and bringing into being what we are given.  Drums are a Shamankas most important tool.  When she makes her own it is  a birthing process-a moment of conception when the seed of the idea meets materials given by Mother Earth.  A gestation- as the process unfolds. A birth as the drum is completed and then honoured and named in Ceremony.  Her drum becomes her companion, her most powerful ally and teacher.

If cared for it will mature and grow old with her.  When the Shamanka Sister walks the Rainbow bridge the Drum Spirit will go with her- keeping rhythm for the next dance.

A lot of photos were taken in Germany and I am waiting to receive a disc with them on.  As soon as I do I will post some here.

Drum Making Weekend and Sweat Lodge

The Weather Spirits smiled on us this weekend.  A gathering of wonderful women sat in circle in the beautiful Autumn air.  The wind blew gently and the Buzzards caught the thermals as they circled, keening, overhead. This was our weekend for creating drums.  Calling them into being-working with the animal spirits.

As part of the Shamanka Shamanic Practitioner course we strongly encourage our women to make their own drums.  As a  Shamanic Practitioner your drum is probably your most important tool.  It is multi-functional.  The drum can be used for clensing, for healing, for diagnosing and journeying.  Played together they are inspirational and transformational on a personal and global scale.

So together we journeyed to the Spirit of the animal who gifted their hide for the purpose of Drum making.  We asked permission from them to continue the process and what intention they would like the drum to be create for.

Then the journey of creation began.  Feeling the hides and deciding where the drum would be cut from-sometimes having to negotiate with others working on the same hide.  Feeling the energy of the hoops to discover the right one for you and your drum. (Thanks to Young Bear for making the hoops). Measuring and drawing the circle, then taking the first cut-no room for mistakes-with clarity and confidence.  Punching the holes and finally cutting the laces-long enough to wind around your drum 10 times in a continuous strip, being aware of the places the hide is thinner or thicker. Then the slow and meticulous process of threading your drum with awareness and as you weave the laces you weave in the intention of the drums purpose.

When the drum is completed, a beater is made.  Quest for the wood for the handle-call to the trees.  When all is done then an opportunity to decorate both Drum and beater and to introduce one to the other.

A last journey for the name of the new drum being and then to the Sweat Lodge for prayer and an opportunity to dedicate and honour the fruit of your hands and the bounty of Mother Earth and all Her Children.  We are so blessed.

Shamanka Training 2009

What an amazing year we’ve had in Dorset.  A group of 18 women decided to ‘grasp the nettle’ and sign up for the Shamanka Training. The journey they began last February has taken them places they’d never dared dream off.  Claire said

“Powerfully transformative: through this training, I have changed my life more than I could have believed was possible.”

This training is for women who really want to change themselves, their lives and the World!  To finally make a difference in the personal and global.  This is an era  of great upheaval and often difficulties.  Time appears to be speeding up, as we experience cultural shifts in months that once took centuries.  This training will give you the tools to deal with the changes and to help heal any damage.

It is now we need to stand in the Light and be counted.  Everything we do as individuals DOES MATTER.  Every word we utter, every act, every thought-we are creating our own reality as individuals and as a global consciousness.

There is only now.

The Monks from Tashi Lhunpo come to stay

Just over a week ago we had the most delightful visitors come to stay at Champlain’s Well.  Eight Tibetan Monks and their translator came for the weekend to run a workshop and give a performance of their world famous masked dances, chanting and mudras.

What wonderful company they were.  They bought their own food and cooked for all of us.  Their energy was so gentle and innocent.  They loved the dogs, were fascinated by BBC Parliament on TV and laughed so loud when the oldest Monk had a turn on the massage chair.
The workshop was fascinating and we learned all about the amazing costumes they wear.  The meaning of some of the Mudras and the plight of the Panchen Lama and the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery

Monks and dung-chen This shows two of the monks with the large trumpet like instrument called the Dung Chen.  When this is played any negativity attached to your energy body will be blasted away!

Learning Tibetan At the workshop everyone had the opportunity to learn a little Tibetan.

Dancing with monks We were taught a few steps of the famous Black Hat dance.

Dukka making At the Monastery the Monks make something called a Dukka.  This is a protective Mandala which promotes good health.  The prayer of Dukka is written onto a piece of paper then wrapped in silks to make a beautiful square small enough to fit into your pocket.  Here the monks are showing interested people how to make them.

Monks debate More debating Here the Monks are debating on different scriptures.  It got very lively with a bit of pushing and shoving and a lot of laughter!

Black hat Explaining black hat costume This is Jane explaining the fabulous costume for the Black Hat Dance.

Prayer flag printing We also learned to print prayer flags.

Group sand mandala We were shown and had a chance to try our hand at making a sand mandala.  Much harder than it looks!

Let sleeping dogs (and monks) lie! They spent the night in our Sitting room.

Monk and dogs Monk playing with pack Monks in garden with dogs

They really loved the dogs!

Monks on Deal pier More monks on pier Monks on Deal pier 2

Before the Workshop began we all went for a walk along Deal Pier.  It was a cold and blustery day!

Let sleeping dogs (and monks) lie! Monks in a minibus It was a great blessing for us and a priviledge to meet the Monks from Tashi Lhunpo and I will definitely be inviting them to stay again!
